ANODE CASTOLDI 2403/1
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes such as Castoldi 2403/1 are part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as an electrochemical barrier between submerged metal components and salt or brackish water. This anode is designed specifically for Castoldi propulsion equipment, where it protects the metallic surfaces of the turbojet against galvanic corrosion, an electrochemical process that progressively degrades aluminum, bronze and other structural alloys if not intercepted. Without adequate cathodic protection, turbojet bodies, blades and metal supports are exposed to pitting, wall thinning and, in advanced cases, structural failures that compromise the integrity of the propulsion system.
When to replace this part?
The most obvious symptom that the Castoldi 2403/1 anode has exhausted its useful life is the visible reduction in its mass: when the anode has lost approximately 50% of its volume, it must be replaced without delay to ensure that the cathodic protection remains effective. The review and visual inspection of the anodes should be carried out at least at the beginning and end of each navigation season, and in boats that remain in the water continuously, a check every three or four months is recommended. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion damage to Castoldi turbojet components that are considerably more expensive to repair or replace.
