Function and technical context

Cathodic protection anodes are sacrificial elements that are installed on the submerged metal parts of the boat and propulsion unit to prevent galvanic corrosion. This Castoldi anode with reference TEN02404 acts as a sacrificial electrode in the Castoldi jet propulsion system, protecting the noblest metallic surfaces - such as bronze, stainless steel or structural aluminum - against the electrochemical action of salt, brackish or fresh water. Without adequate anodic protection, metal components of the drive and casing are exposed to accelerated corrosion, which can compromise the structural integrity of the drive unit and lead to serious and costly breakdowns.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes should be visually inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, show irregular erosion, cracks or have shrunk to a residual core with no real protective capacity. In boats that sail in salt waters or with high electrical conductivity, wear can be significantly faster, so it is recommended to check the condition of the anode at each docking or seasonal maintenance. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the Castoldi propellant and associated repairs.
