Connector Plastic 10 mm (Series 1)
Description
Function and technical context
This 10 mm polyamide union (Series 1) is part of the circuit of flexible pipes that interconnect different sections of hose in cooling, fuel or bilge systems of pleasure boats and work boats. Its main function is to maintain a tight and firm connection between two sections of hose of the same diameter, guaranteeing the continuity of the fluid without leaks or pressure losses in the circuit. The polyamide material offers chemical and mechanical resistance suitable for marine environments, where exposure to salt water, fuels and constant thermal variations quickly degrade lower quality connectors. A joint in poor condition can cause leaks in the line, entry of air into cooling circuits or loss of fuel, situations that compromise both the safety of the boat and the correct operation of the engine.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that a hose fitting needs to be replaced are the appearance of moisture stains or traces of liquid around the connector, visible deformation of the plastic due to heat or pressure, and progressive loosening of the hoses that causes them to easily come out of the fitting. It is recommended to visually inspect all hose joints and connectors during each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to possible microcracks or whitish areas in the plastic, an unequivocal sign of material embrittlement. Preventively replacing this type of connector has a minimal cost and prevents major breakdowns – such as engine overheating or a fire due to a fuel leak – which can be very costly or dangerous when navigating.
