Description

Function and technical context

The Racor 225 30 micron filter element acts within the fuel supply circuit to retain solid particles, dirt and contaminants that would otherwise reach the injectors or fuel pump of the marine engine. With a filtration degree of 30 microns, this element occupies an intermediate level of purification: fine enough to protect sensitive components of the injection system, but without restricting the flow rate necessary for the continuous operation of the engine in demanding working conditions. Its correct installation in the Racor series 225 separator-filter is critical in vessels that operate with diesel, since marine fuel can incorporate emulsified water, bacterial biofilm and metallic residues from the tank or supply line. If the element becomes saturated or deteriorates, the engine may suffer power outages, progressive loss of power or direct damage to the high pressure pump or injectors.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a saturated filter element are: difficult cold starts, drops in speed under load, unexpected engine stops and, in advanced cases, activation of low fuel pressure alarms. For marine fuel filters in regular use, it is recommended to replace the element every 200-300 hours of navigation or at the beginning of each season if the boat remains inactive for months, a period in which biodiesel and microorganisms can clog the element rapidly. Replacing the element preventively, before symptoms appear, avoids navigation breakdowns and protects injection components whose repair is considerably more expensive.
