Description

Function and technical context

The RACR60T 10 micron filter element works within the fuel supply system, acting as a precision barrier against contaminating particles that circulate in the diesel or petrol before reaching the injectors and the high pressure pump. Its filter threshold of 10 microns allows it to retain fine sediments, metal oxides, emulsified water and particulate matter that filters with greater porosity allow to pass through, thus protecting the tighter tolerance components of the power train. In marine environments, where fuel stored in ship tanks is especially exposed to condensation, microorganisms and cross-contamination in port, this level of filtration is essential to ensure reliable starting and stable combustion. If the element becomes saturated or deteriorates without being replaced, the flow restriction causes pressure drops in the system, progressive loss of power and, in extreme cases, irreparable damage to injectors or the fuel pump.

When to replace this part?

The most common signs that the coupling element is clogged are: difficult starts when cold, jerks or drops in speed under load, the fuel pressure warning light coming on or a filter alarm on the control panel. As a general preventive maintenance guideline, it is recommended to replace the filter element every 100-200 hours of navigation or, at least, at the beginning of each season, since the deposits accumulated during the winter can quickly clog it during the first uses. Changing the element before symptoms appear avoids being stranded due to lack of fuel on the high seas and protects much higher cost components.
