Function and technical context

The RACR60P 30 micron filter element is part of the Racor type fuel filtration system, acting as a selective barrier that intercepts solid particles, sediments and contaminants before they reach the injection pump and injectors of the marine engine. It works in the fuel supply line, located between the tank and the engine, being the last shield of protection against impurities that can clog the precision ducts of the injection system. A clogged element causes pressure drops in the fuel line, difficult starts, loss of speed and, in advanced cases, unexpected engine stops while sailing. The correct function of this filter cartridge is also decisive in maintaining efficiency in fuel spraying within the combustion chambers, directly impacting engine performance and emissions.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of an exhausted Racor element are the progressive loss of power, irregularities in idling, difficulty starting when cold and in extreme cases, cutting off the fuel supply due to total clogging of the cartridge. As a general rule of preventive maintenance, it is recommended to replace the filter element every 200-300 hours of operation or at the beginning of each nautical season, especially if the boat operates in port areas where the fuel may have a higher water and sediment content. Changing the cartridge preventively is the most economical measure to avoid breakdowns in the injection pump or injectors, the repair of which is significantly more expensive.
