Function and technical context

The 10 micron filter element acts as a purification barrier in the fuel circuit or in boat hydraulic systems, retaining solid particles, sediments and contaminants whose size exceeds 10 microns before they reach the critical components of the marine engine. It works integrated into the Racor assembly of the fuel supply system, usually being located between the tank and the fuel pump or injectors, protecting these elements from obstructions and premature wear. Its intermediate filtering capacity makes it an effective solution for installations where fuel quality can be compromised by water, metal particles or organic residues, guaranteeing a clean and stable flow to the engine. A damaged or clogged element directly compromises the supply pressure, causing power losses, starting failures or irreversible damage to high-cost injectors and fuel pumps.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a clogged or exhausted Racor element include difficulty starting when cold, drops in revolutions under load, jerks in acceleration and in advanced cases sudden engine shutdown due to lack of fuel supply. It is recommended to check and replace the filter element every 100-200 hours of navigation or at the beginning of each season, adapting the frequency according to the quality of the fuel used and the operating conditions of the boat. Replacing it preventively, without waiting for symptoms to appear, is the most economical practice to avoid breakdowns in much higher cost components such as injectors or injection pumps.
