FILTER WITH BOWL 681 L/H
Description
Function and technical context
This bowl filter acts as a protection and particle retention element in the salt water cooling circuits and in auxiliary circuits of medium power marine engines, intercepting impurities, organic residues and sediments before they reach critical components such as water pumps, heat exchangers or thermostatic valves. It works within the hydraulic cooling system, being the first link of defense of the fluid circuit against obstructions that could compromise the flow necessary to maintain working temperatures within safe ranges. With a maximum flow capacity of 681 liters per hour and a controlled pressure drop of 0.49 PSI, it ensures that the pump is not overloaded while filtering is carried out efficiently, without undue restrictions to the hydraulic circuit. Its maximum operating pressure of 15 PSI makes it suitable for installations in machine rooms with limited space, thanks to its compact dimensions of 559 mm high, 152 mm wide and 178 mm deep. If this component is clogged or damaged, the coolant flow rate is reduced, which can lead to engine overheating, cavitation in the water pump or irreversible damage to the heat exchangers.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a filter with a bowl in poor condition are the progressive loss of flow in the cooling circuit, an increase in the engine's working temperature above normal values and the appearance of unusual vibrations or noises in the water pump due to lack of inlet pressure. It is recommended to inspect the filter element and clean the bowl during each seasonal maintenance, and proceed to completely replace it when cracks are seen in the body, deterioration of the seal or when cleaning does not restore the adequate flow rate. Replacing this filter preventively is a low-cost intervention that prevents major breakdowns on the high seas, where insufficient cooling can render the engine unusable within a few hours of navigation.
