Function and technical context

The head gasket is the most required sealing element of the engine block: it is placed between the cylinder head and the block to simultaneously seal the combustion chambers, cooling ducts and lubrication channels. In two-stroke Suzuki outboard engines such as the DT9.9 and DT15, this component must withstand continuous cycles of pressure and temperature, maintaining an airtight seal that prevents the leakage of combustion gases into the water circuit and prevents the coolant from contaminating the oil and fuel mixture. A failure in this sealing can lead to progressive overheating of the engine, loss of compression, entry of water into the cylinder and, in serious cases, the destruction of the block or cylinder head itself.
