CHAMPION QL82YC SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The Champion QL82YC spark plug is part of the ignition system of the outboard or inboard engine, being the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in each cylinder. It works in a high temperature and pressure environment, subjected to continuous ignition cycles that require materials of maximum reliability to guarantee efficient and complete combustion. A bad spark plug causes misfires, increased fuel consumption, loss of engine power and high emissions; In serious situations it can cause damage to the cylinder head or the catalyst. Champion's QL82YC reference is a long thread spark plug designed specifically for two-stroke marine engines, with a thermal index calibrated for the working conditions required in nautical applications.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or failed spark plug include difficult or failed starts, irregular engine jerks and vibrations at idle, noticeable loss of acceleration, and increased petrol consumption. In two-stroke marine engines, it is recommended to inspect the spark plugs every 100 hours of use or at the beginning of each nautical season, replacing them if the electrode shows erosion, carbon deposits or the gap (separation between electrodes) is outside the manufacturer's specification. Replacing the spark plug preventively before going sailing is a low-cost measure that avoids being left without propulsion on the high seas.
