Description

Function and technical context

The Champion QL78YC6 spark plug is part of the ignition system of outboard and stationary petrol engines, being responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Its durable electrode design ensures stable and efficient ignition in each engine cycle, directly contributing to optimal performance and balanced fuel consumption. A bad spark plug causes misfires, notable loss of power, increased consumption and high emissions; In extreme cases it can cause damage to the cylinder head or the catalyst due to incomplete combustion. The Champion QL78YC6 reference is designed for marine engines that require spark plugs of a specific thermal grade, ensuring correct heat dissipation under continuous working conditions on water.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn or defective spark plug in marine engines are: jerking or hesitation when accelerating, difficult or repeated starting, irregular idling and excessive engine vibration, as well as a noticeable increase in petrol consumption. For outboard engines in intensive use, it is recommended to check the spark plugs every 100 hours of navigation or at the beginning of each season, replacing them if the electrode shows erosion, carbon deposits or the gap has changed with respect to the manufacturer's specification. Changing the spark plug preventively at each annual check is one of the most economical and effective interventions to avoid unexpected breakdowns at sea and keep the engine in full response condition.
