CHAMPION CJ14 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The Champion CJ14 spark plug is part of the outboard engine's ignition system, being the component responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the fuel and air mixture in the combustion chamber. Its condition directly conditions the quality of the ignition in each engine cycle, affecting both combustion efficiency and the general performance of the boat. A worn electrode or an incorrect gap causes incomplete ignitions, which translates into loss of power, increased consumption and difficulties starting the engine, especially when cold. Keeping the spark plugs in perfect condition is essential to preserve the life of the engine and ensure reliable navigation.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that the spark plug needs to be replaced are: difficult or repeated starting, jerking or backfiring during acceleration, unstable idle and a visible increase in fuel consumption. As a general reference for outboard engines, it is recommended to inspect the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation and replace them at least every season or every 200 hours, always following the engine manufacturer's instructions. Changing the spark plug preventively at the beginning of each nautical season is an economical measure that prevents breakdowns at sea and prolongs the life of the engine.
