Function and technical context

When to replace this part?

A cotton mop should be replaced when the threads begin to fray excessively, lose absorbency, or have hardened areas due to the accumulation of salt, dirt, or cleaning products that are not removed with regular washing. It is recommended to check its condition at the beginning of each season and replace it if it drags dirt instead of absorbing it, since a damaged mop can scratch delicate surfaces or distribute contaminants instead of removing them. Always keeping a mop in good condition on board avoids having to resort to inappropriate cloths that could damage the boat's finishes at the least opportune moment.
