Function and technical context

This threaded adapter is part of the cleaning and rinsing circuit of the outboard or inboard motor, allowing a fresh water hose to be connected directly to the cooling system to carry out internal washing after each trip to the sea. Its function is to act as a threaded connection piece between the engine water intake and the hose fitting, guaranteeing a tight and safe connection during the flushing process. An adapter in poor condition can cause leaks during rinsing, prevent effective cleaning of the salt water circuit and accelerate internal corrosion of pipes, thermostats and heat exchangers. The most common symptoms of a deteriorated threaded adapter are water leaks at the connection point during rinsing, difficulty screwing or unscrewing the fitting due to thread wear, or visible cracks in the body of the adapter caused by repeated thermal cycles. It is recommended to inspect this component during each seasonal maintenance and replace it if there is any sign of wear, looseness in the connection or loss of tightness. Replacing it preventively is a low-cost measure that prevents the salt accumulated in the cooling circuit from leading to serious breakdowns and costly repairs.
