Reinforced Male Hose Adapter Plastic 3/4" - 19 mm
Description
Function and technical context
This male connector made of fiberglass reinforced plastic acts as a connection adapter in the hose circuits of the seawater cooling system, allowing the flexible conduit to be connected to the engine block, exhaust manifold or other components of the cooling circuit. The 3/4" thread facilitates coupling to threaded bodies of the engine, while the 19 mm hose barb ensures a firm and watertight seat of the hose, preventing coolant leaks that could compromise the safety of the boat. The plastic material with fiberglass reinforcement combines chemical resistance to salt water and heat with reduced weight, being a common solution in nautical installations where galvanic corrosion of metals is a limiting factor. A leak at this junction point can cause loss of cooling flow, engine overheating and severe damage to head gaskets or cylinder liners.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of deterioration in a hose adapter are the appearance of microcracks or visible deformations in the plastic body, persistent dripping at the connection with the hose even though the clamp is correctly tightened, or hardening and cracking of the spigot area that prevents a correct seal. It is recommended to inspect this type of accessories during each seasonal maintenance, especially after wintering in environments with sudden thermal changes, since the cycles of expansion and contraction progressively weaken the composite material. Replacing it preventively when detecting any sign of degradation avoids unexpected breakdowns during navigation and the costly towing to port that they entail.
