Double Connection Nipple Naval Bronze 2 1/2"
Description
Function and technical context
The double naval bronze plug is a male/male union fitting that allows you to connect two sections of pipe or threaded accessories in onboard installations where it is required to extend or join pipes without changing the direction of the thread. It usually works on seawater cooling systems, wet exhaust circuits, bottom intakes, fuel circuits and other pipes that are part of the boat's nautical plumbing. The naval bronze manufacturing guarantees high corrosion resistance in saltwater environments, making it the reference material for this type of connections in marine environments. A deteriorated male, with thread leaks or advanced galvanic corrosion, can compromise the tightness of the circuit, cause unwanted water ingress or interrupt the flow in critical engine or hull systems.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that a double tap must be replaced are: appearance of humidity or dripping in the thread area, difficulty in tightening or loosening the connection due to corrosion, or presence of visible pitting and pitting on the surface of the bronze that compromises the integrity of the piece. It is recommended that all threaded fittings and plugs be inspected at each seasonal maintenance, especially on vessels operating in salt or brackish water. Preventively replacing any piers with signs of wear prevents navigation breakdowns and possible partial flooding that is difficult to manage outside the port.
