Description

Function and technical context

Naval bronze ball valves are fundamental cutting elements in the hydraulic circuits of vessels, used to interrupt or allow the passage of water, fuel or cooling fluids immediately and in a sealed manner. Made of naval bronze, a material with excellent resistance to marine corrosion and electrolysis in salt and brackish water environments, this valve incorporates a chrome-plated brass inner ball that guarantees a tight seal and smooth rotation even after prolonged periods of inactivity. The AISI 430 stainless steel handle provides mechanical resistance and prevents surface corrosion on the deck or engine room. Its 3/4" female/female (H/F) connection configuration makes it compatible with most standard naval plumbing installations, facilitating its integration into bottom intakes, cooling circuits, bilge systems or fuel lines without the need for adapters.

When to replace this part?

A marine ball valve should be replaced when it develops leaks in the body or ball shaft, when the handle rotation becomes stiff or irregular indicating internal corrosion or limescale deposits, or when it fails to completely shut off the flow when closed. It is recommended to inspect its condition during each seasonal maintenance, checking the tight seal and freedom of rotation, especially in bottom shots where a failure can compromise the buoyancy of the boat. Replacing the valve preventively at the slightest sign of deterioration avoids emergency navigation situations that could result in uncontrolled water inflows.
