Description

Function and technical context

Velox antifouling in 0.25 liter black format is an antifouling paint specifically formulated for the protection of propellers, shafts, horns and submerged metal surfaces of boats against the accumulation of marine organisms such as algae, mussels and barnacles. Its application creates an active barrier that prevents biological adhesion on metals exposed to water, preserving the hydrodynamic performance of the propulsion. A propeller or shaft with incrustations significantly increases drag, which translates into increased fuel consumption, loss of speed and engine overload. This product is especially suitable for areas with high biological activity and on boats with long periods of stay in the water.

When to apply or renew this treatment?

The most obvious sign that antifouling is no longer effective is the visible presence of scale on the propeller or shaft, accompanied by unusual vibrations, loss of thrust or increased consumption without apparent mechanical cause. It is recommended to renew the application at the beginning of each nautical season, after beaching and cleaning the hull, following the indicated protocol: prior degreasing, sanding with 80-100 grit and two coats with an interval of 8 hours between them. In areas exposed to galvanic currents, applying a coat of Metal Primer at least 8 hours before antifouling is a professional practice that significantly prolongs the duration of the treatment and protects the base metal against electrolytic corrosion.
