Function and technical context

The Velox Metal Primer acts as an adhesion layer between the metal substrate and the Velox Plus antivegetative paint, ensuring that the antifouling adheres stably and lastingly on bronze, steel and aluminum surfaces. Its formulation is specifically designed to work in the construction area, where the interface between the metal and the protective paint is critical to avoid galvanic corrosion and premature detachment of the antifouling system. It is also compatible with factory varnishes applied to stern feet and with previous epoxy protective cycles, which considerably expands its field of application on propellers, shafts, keels and bottoms of boats made of different materials. A well-applied primer prolongs the life of the antifouling and reduces the frequency of groundings for hull maintenance.

When to apply this primer?

It should be used whenever painting on bare metals or metal surfaces that show signs of surface oxidation, peeling of the previous protective cycle or loss of adhesion of the existing antifouling. It is recommended to check the condition of the antifouling system each season and apply a coat of Velox Metal Primer before repainting with Velox Plus if the metal substrate has been exposed. Correctly preparing the surface with this primer avoids adhesion failures that require complete stripping of the hull, which costs much more time and money than a preventive application.
