Description

Function and technical context

This aluminum plate anode is designed specifically for Hamilton Jet propulsion systems, acting as a sacrificial element that protects the metal surfaces of the propulsion assembly from galvanic corrosion. He works on the waterjet propulsion system, where metals of different electrochemical potential coexist in contact with the marine environment. As the most electronegative metal in the assembly, the anode corrodes in a controlled manner rather than the structural components of the jet, such as the rotor, stator or casing. Its dimensions of 118x59 mm guarantee adequate cathodic protection coverage for the Hamilton Jet models for which it is approved. The aluminum alloy used makes it especially effective in salty and brackish waters, where the electrochemical aggressiveness is greater.

When to replace this plate anode?

The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost more than 50% of its mass due to corrosion, at which point it no longer offers sufficient cathodic protection to the jet assembly. In boats that regularly sail in salt water, it is recommended to inspect the anodes at least once a season and replace them annually as a preventive rule, without waiting for their total consumption. Replacing the anode early is a minimal investment compared to the cost of repairing or replacing structural components of the Hamilton Jet system damaged by galvanic corrosion.
