ANODO HAMILTON JET 80X24 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The zinc anode for Hamilton Jet 80x24 is the component responsible for the cathodic protection of the waterjet propulsion system, acting as a sacrificial electrode to preserve the submerged metal parts of the waterjet against galvanic corrosion. It works directly in the electrochemical protection circuit of the pump body, the impeller and the stainless steel or aluminum surfaces that make up the Hamilton Jet propulsion unit. Being a more electrochemically active metal than the noble materials of the system, zinc corrodes preferentially, preventing degradation from affecting structural and high-cost parts such as the impeller or pump casing. Without adequate anodic protection, galvanic corrosion can compromise the integrity of the assembly in a few seasons of use, especially in salty or brackish waters where the electrochemical process is more aggressive.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each sailing season: when the anode has lost approximately 50% of its mass or has a very irregular and eroded surface, it is time to replace it without delay. In vessels that operate in waters with high conductivity (marines with dispersed electrical currents, port areas or waters with high salinity), wear can be significantly faster, so it is recommended to check the condition of the anode every 3-4 months. Preventatively replacing the anode before it is completely depleted is the only way to ensure that the noble parts of the Hamilton Jet system remain protected, avoiding high-cost repairs or premature replacement of the impeller and casing.
