ANODO HAMILTON JET 98X19 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The Hamilton Jet 98x19 zinc anode is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for water jet propulsion systems (jet drive) of the Hamilton Jet brand. Its mission is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect the metal parts of the drive assembly—pump body, impeller, nozzle and other aluminum or bronze components—against galvanic corrosion caused by salt, brackish or water with a high mineral content. As it is a zinc (Zn) anode, it is ideal for use in seawater, where the potential difference between different metals can destroy structural components of the jet in a few weeks if there is no active protection. Without healthy cathodic protection, the jet body suffers from pitting, erosion and material loss that compromise both propulsion performance and the structural integrity of the unit.
When to replace this part?
Anode wear is visible and easy to diagnose: when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass or has an irregular surface with deep cavities, it must be replaced immediately, since an excessively consumed anode no longer offers effective protection. For boats operating in salt water, it is recommended to inspect the jet drive anodes at least once a season and replace them preventively at each annual tune-up, regardless of their apparent condition if they have completed a full season of intensive use. Replacing the anode before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid irreversible damage to the Hamilton Jet impeller, casing or nozzle, repairs that are significantly more expensive.
