Function and technical context

The QUICK BTQ110/125 propeller anode with Ø38 mm inner diameter is a cathodic protection element designed to be mounted directly on the hub or propeller shaft of outboard motors and electric propellers of the QUICK BTQ110 and BTQ125 range. Its mission is to sacrifice itself electrochemically, acting as a base metal that preferentially corrodes against the noble metallic components of the propeller and shaft, such as stainless steel or bronze, protecting them from galvanic corrosion. When working in marine environments, where the presence of dissolved salts and the potential difference between different metals dramatically accelerates deterioration, this zinc anode (ZN) is essential to preserve the structural integrity of the propulsion system. Without adequate cathodic protection, the shaft and propeller can suffer from pitting, loss of section and premature breakage, which would directly compromise the maneuverability and safety of the vessel.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each boating season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, show irregular erosion, surface cracks or a generalized whitish discoloration indicating depletion of the active material. In areas of high salinity or with strong parasitic electrical current, consumption can be much faster, so it is recommended to check the condition of the anode every 3-4 months or after very long mooring periods. Replacing the anode preventively, before it disappears completely, is the most economical measure to avoid costly repairs to the shaft and propeller or even complete replacement of the propeller.
