Function and technical context

The zinc weldable teardrop anode acts as sacrificial cathodic protection on boat hulls and metal structures, attracting electrolytic corrosion to itself and preserving the noble metals of the hull, propellers, shafts and rudders. Being made of high-purity zinc, it is especially suitable for use in salty and brackish waters, environments where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive and can compromise the structural integrity of the boat in a few seasons. Its teardrop-shaped design facilitates uniform distribution of cathodic protection over the surface of the helmet. The weldable version allows for a permanent fixation with maximum mechanical resistance, ideal for installations where the greatest possible strength against shocks, vibrations and marine currents is required.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes should be inspected at least once a season, coinciding with the annual beaching of the vessel, and replaced when they have lost between 50% and 75% of their mass, since at that point they no longer offer effective cathodic protection. The most common symptoms of a depleted or missing anode are the appearance of pitting and corrosion marks on the hull, reddish or dark discoloration in submerged metal areas, and visible deterioration of the shaft or propeller. Nautical maintenance professionals recommend replacing the anodes preventively at each stranding, without waiting for them to be completely used up, since an unprotected hull can suffer irreversible damage that generates high-cost repairs.
