Function and technical context

The anodes in this kit act as a passive cathodic protection system in the cooling circuits and submerged structures of the Yamaha F300A engine. Manufactured from zinc, magnesium or aluminum alloys, they are electrochemically sacrificed to prevent galvanic corrosion of critical components such as the engine block, cylinder head, salt water inlet pipes and metal fittings exposed to fresh or sea water. Without this cathodic protection, corrosion would directly attack the metal parts of the block, causing loss of tightness in joints, microperforations in the cylinder liners and accelerated degradation of the structural integrity of the engine.

When to replace this part?

Cathodic protection anodes should be inspected at the end of each boating season and replaced when they show visible wear greater than 50% of their mass or when they show gray-white oxide layers indicating exhausted active sacrifice. In saltwater, the typical replacement interval is one to two seasons; In fresh waters or in vessels with sporadic use, the duration is prolonged, although preventive inspection remains critical. Preventive replacement in pre-season maintenance is the best guarantee to avoid costly repairs due to corrosion that would compromise the reliability of the engine in navigation.
