Function and technical context

The 6AW-45251-00 zinc anode is a sacrificial component that cathodically protects the Yamaha engine against electrochemical corrosion in salt and fresh water. Integrated into the cooling system and wet hull of the propellant, it is directly exposed to contact with the aqueous electrolyte, where it oxidizes preferentially before the noble metal parts of the engine. Without this active anode, galvanic degradation would advance rapidly on cylinder heads, engine block, cooling pipes and internal components, compromising the structural and functional integrity of marine propulsion.

When to replace this part?
