The aluminum sacrificial anode is an essential cathodic protection component in Yamaha marine engines exposed to salt or brackish water. It is strategically installed in areas of the engine where contact with the marine environment is inevitable, acting as an electrochemical barrier against galvanic corrosion. By preferentially oxidizing before the critical metal parts of the powertrain—such as the cylinder head, engine block, and cooling pipes—the anode absorbs the degradation process that seawater would cause, preventing corrosion from perforating cooling ducts, weakening seals, or compromising the structural integrity of the engine.
