The zinc anode is a passive cathodic protection component integrated into the saltwater cooling systems of Yamaha engines. The zinc anode wears progressively during each boating season and should be checked and visually inspected at the beginning of each season, especially on boats with frequent use in salt or brackish water. Accelerated consumption—noticeable volume loss, deep pitting, or partial disintegration—indicates aggressiveness of the medium and requires immediate replacement to maintain effective cathodic protection. Replacing the anode preventively at the end of the season or when it shows wear greater than 50% of its mass prevents costly internal corrosion and guarantees optimal functioning of the cooling system during the next campaign.
