YAHAMA ANODE 6AW-45619-00 ALUMINUM
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is a cathodic protection component that acts as a defensive barrier against galvanic corrosion in Yamaha outboard motors. Made of aluminum, it is installed in strategic points of the engine block and cooling system where it comes into direct contact with salt or brackish water. Its function is to rust in a controlled manner instead of the engine metal, preventing electrochemical corrosion from attacking critical components such as cylinders, cylinder heads and cooling ducts. Without this active protection, the salinity of the seawater would progressively degrade the metal parts of the engine, compromising the structural integrity and causing internal leaks that can render the boat unusable.
When to replace this part?
Aluminum anodes should be inspected at the end of each sailing season and replaced when they show visible wear, reduction in size or marked surface erosion, indicators that they have fulfilled their protective function. In salty water or water with high conductivity, consumption is faster, so it is recommended to check the condition at each annual maintenance and replace preventively before it is completely exhausted. Changing the anode early is a minimal investment compared to the cost of repairing corroded cylinders or seals damaged by infiltrated seawater.
