YAHAMA ANODE 6BL-11325-00
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is an essential component in the cathodic defense of Yamaha marine engines, installed specifically to protect against galvanic corrosion in aquatic environments. This element degrades in a controlled and predictable manner, acting as an electrochemical barrier that absorbs corrosive activity instead of allowing it to attack the engine's noble metals, such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads and internal cooling circuits. Strategically placed in areas of permanent immersion or frequent contact with salt and fresh water, the anode keeps the electrochemical potential of the engine stable, preserving the structural integrity throughout the sailing season without the need for costly interventions.
When to replace this part?
The anode gradually erodes through natural electrochemical processes, with a significantly higher rate of degradation in saltwater than in freshwater. It is recommended to visually inspect the condition of the anode at the beginning and end of each navigation season, replacing it when it presents a volume loss of more than 50% or when it shows fractures, cracks or material detachments. Preventive replacement is economically more efficient than repairing damage due to advanced corrosion in internal engine components, also avoiding unexpected stops of the boat and costly interventions in the nautical workshop.
