YAHAMA ANODE 61A-11325-00
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is an essential component in the Yamaha marine engine cathodic protection system. Made of zinc alloy, it acts as an electrochemical barrier against galvanic corrosion that is produced by the interaction between the metals of the engine, salt or brackish water and the different materials of the cooling system. This anode degrades in a controlled manner instead of the engine block, preserving the structural integrity of the propulsion system. Its presence is critical in saltwater vessels, where galvanic corrosion is especially aggressive and can compromise cylinders, liners and internal passages in a matter of months without adequate protection.
When to replace this part?
The anode should be inspected at the end of each boating season, especially in salt water or waters with high mineral concentration. A consumed anode, with visible erosion greater than 50% of the volume, stops offering effective protection, allowing corrosion to directly attack the engine. It is recommended to replace this element preventively every season or when there is significant material loss, thus avoiding costly repairs to internal engine components that are much more expensive than the cost of this protective piece.
