ANODE YAMAHA 25-90CV 688-11325-00
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is a critical component in the cathodic protection system of Yamaha marine engines from 25 to 90 hp. Installed in the engine block or in areas of maximum exposure to salt water, it acts as an electrochemical barrier that absorbs galvanic corrosion, preventing the engine's noble metals (aluminum, cast iron and steel) from prematurely degrading. Its function is essential in vessels that operate in salt or brackish water, where rust advances rapidly without adequate protection. A worn or missing anode allows accelerated corrosion of the engine block, cylinder head and cooling systems, compromising the tightness and useful life of the engine.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes require annual inspection and replacement, especially at the close of the season or after prolonged operations in salt water. If you see visible corrosion on the engine block, leaks in the cooling joints, or rust deposits around the water intake system, it is a sign that the anode has lost effectiveness. Preventive replacement of this component is the most economical and effective method to avoid costly engine repairs: a corroded cylinder head or a galvanically damaged block involves dozens of hours of mechanics and thousands of euros in parts.
