Function and technical context

The TEN01161 anode is a sacrificial element that protects the submerged metal components of Yamaha outboard motors from galvanic corrosion. Installed in critical areas of the cooling circuit and in systems exposed to salt or fresh water, this anode degrades in a controlled manner, allowing it to rust in place of the engine block, cylinders, impeller blades and other vital structural elements. Its function is essential to maintain the integrity of the engine and significantly extend the useful life of high-cost components that, without this protection, would suffer accelerated oxidation and premature failure.

When to replace this part?

You should replace the anode when you notice visible loss of mass, uniform grayish discoloration, or almost total disappearance of its volume. It is recommended that the anode be inspected and replaced at least once a year, preferably at the beginning of each boating season, more frequently if the engine is used in salt water or in stagnant water conditions with high corrosivity rates. Performing this replacement preventively is the most economical investment to avoid costly repairs resulting from internal corrosion of the engine at sea or during winter storage.
