Function and technical context

The TEN01158 sacrificial anode protects the Yamaha engine's submerged metal components from galvanic corrosion caused by salt water and electrolytes found in marine environments. Strategically installed in the water cooling circuit, it acts as an electrochemical barrier by preferentially oxidizing before the critical surfaces of the engine. This function is essential to preserve the structural integrity of the engine block, cylinder head and internal ducts, avoiding the formation of cracks, coolant leaks and progressive loss of tightness that would compromise the operability of the engine.

When to replace this part?

The anode requires inspection at the beginning of each boating season and replacement when it shows visible reduction in volume, marked surface erosion or flaking of material — indicators that it is close to the exhaustion of its protective capacity. Although there is no universal fixed range, anode degradation in salt water is typically accelerated in heavily used vessels or vessels moored in ports with high salinity. Replacing the anode preventively when detecting the first signs of corrosion avoids high-cost repairs derived from galvanic attack on internal engine alloys.
