YAMAHA ANODE
Description
Function and technical context
The TEN01157 sacrificial anode is a cathodic protection component integrated into the water cooling circuit of Yamaha engines, especially in salt and brackish water boating applications. It works through a controlled degradation process: its metallic composition corrodes preferentially instead of the engine block, cylinder head and cooling ducts, neutralizing the galvanic currents generated by electrolytic contact between different materials in a marine environment. Without this active protection, penetrating corrosion advances rapidly in the internal circuit of the engine, compromising the tightness of gaskets and seals, causing coolant leaks and overheating that lead to catastrophic block failures.
When to replace this part?
Inspect the anode at least once a season, especially after intensive navigation in salt water; You should replace it when it shows visible erosion greater than 50% of its volume, deep pits or advanced spot corrosion. Indicators of exhaustion include white or green spots around the cooling joints, imperceptible coolant leaks, and visible corrosion on the engine block. Preventive replacement every season or every 100-150 hours of saltwater boating is the safest practice to avoid costly block repairs; A completely degraded anode can mean the difference between economical seasonal maintenance and the need for complete engine replacement.
