Function and technical context

The TEN01145 sacrificial anode is a cathodic protection component that prevents galvanic corrosion in Yamaha and Mariner marine engines exposed to salt water and aggressive environments. Strategically installed in the engine structure, it electrochemically absorbs corrosive attacks that would otherwise deteriorate noble metals such as aluminum and iron in the engine block. This protection system is essential for the longevity of the engine, as it prevents the formation of rust and the progressive degradation of internal components that would compromise the tightness and performance of the engine.

When to replace this part?

Anodes should be inspected at least once per boating season and replaced when they show significant material loss, surface erosion or partial disintegration. In salt water, consumption is faster than in fresh water, so a review is recommended every 100-150 hours of operation or sooner if active corrosion is detected in surrounding areas. Preventively replacing the anode before it is completely depleted avoids exposure of the base metal to galvanic corrosion, preventing costly repairs due to water infiltration and internal engine damage.
