Description
Function and technical context
The TEN01112-1 sacrificial anode is a galvanic cathodic protection component designed specifically for Yamaha marine engines. Its main function is to rust in a controlled manner instead of the metal hull and internal components of the engine, avoiding electrochemical corrosion caused by continuous contact with salt water or fresh water. Installed at strategic points in the water cooling system, the anode protects critical engine surfaces, cooling chambers and internal ducts against accelerated degradation caused by salinity and galvanic processes in the marine environment. Its progressive wear is normal and desired, since it assumes the cost of corrosion, preventing it from affecting more expensive structures of the propellant.
When to replace this part?
The anode should be visually inspected at the end of each sailing season and replaced when it has lost between 50 and 80% of its thickness or generalized erosion occurs. The consumption rate depends on the salinity of the water, the state of the engine's electrical system and the immersion time; In salt water wear is significantly faster than in fresh water. Preventive replacement before the start of the sailing campaign is the recommended practice to ensure complete protection throughout the season and avoid water leaks and internal corrosion that are costly to repair at sea.
