YAMAHA ALUMINUM ANODE 6E5-45371-00
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is an essential component in the Yamaha marine engine cathodic protection system. Made of aluminum, it is strategically mounted in areas exposed to salt water where it acts as a protective barrier against galvanic corrosion. Its main function is to preferably oxidize the noble metal parts of the engine (block, cylinder head, pipes), sacrificing itself to preserve the structural integrity of the engine. Without this active protection, marine corrosion would advance rapidly on critical components, compromising the tightness, performance and reliability of the engine in navigation.
When to replace this part?
The aluminum anode requires inspection and replacement at the end of each navigation season or when it shows visible erosion greater than 50% of its volume. Symptoms that indicate advanced deterioration include the presence of active corrosion in the engine block, white spots or limescale deposits in normally protected areas, and progressive loss of material in the anode itself. Preventive replacement before the start of the season is the practice recommended by manufacturers to avoid costly repairs derived from corrosive attack, especially in boats that permanently navigate in salt water or in areas of high salinity.
