This aluminum sacrificial anode acts as a protective barrier against galvanic corrosion in Yamaha marine engines, an electrochemical process inevitable in saline and freshwater environments. The anode degrades in a controlled manner instead of the engine block and its internal components, absorbing corrosive ions that would attack the iron and steel of the cooling system and casing.
