Description

Function and Technical Context

This 1/4" tank connector is part of the fuel supply system in OMC outboard motors, serving as the connection point between the portable tank and the fuel supply line. Its function is to ensure a tight and secure connection that allows continuous fuel flow to the engine without leaks or air infiltration that could interrupt fuel supply. A defective connector can cause unexpected engine shutdowns, starting difficulties, or irregular fuel mixture, situations that are especially dangerous when the vessel is far from shore. The equivalent reference for this connector in OMC motors is 772681.

When to Replace This Part?

The most common symptoms of a deteriorated tank connector are the smell of fuel in the tank area, the presence of visible drips at the union between the hose and tank, or loss of prime that requires repeatedly pumping the fuel bulb before starting. This type of connector should be inspected at each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to the condition of the internal seals and the tightness of the closure, as rubber hardens and cracks over time and with fuel exposure. Replacing the connector preventively upon detecting any signs of deterioration avoids breakdowns while underway and possible fire hazards aboard.
