Aluminum Propeller AMITA4 14.8X15 Left Hand
Description
Function and technical context
As the final element in the propulsion chain, this four-blade aluminum propeller converts the rotational torque of the engine into effective thrust on the water, directly determining maximum speed, acceleration response, and fuel consumption efficiency. With a diameter of 14.8 inches and a pitch of 15 inches, the blade geometry is optimized to balance cruise performance with good planing lift capacity. The left-hand rotation—counter-rotation—makes it specific for twin-engine installations where each propulsion unit rotates in the opposite direction to the other, or for counter-rotating engines, with the objective of neutralizing reaction torque and improving vessel maneuverability. The marine aluminum alloy used in the Solas AMITA4 series provides an appropriate balance between mechanical strength and rotating mass reduction, being the standard solution in recreational vessels and semi-intensive use applications where replacement cost and machining ease in case of minor damage are relevant factors. An incorrectly selected or deteriorated propeller causes the engine to fail to reach its operating RPM range, which generates thermal and mechanical overloads in the engine and drive system and shortens the service life of bearings, shaft seals, and the gearbox itself.
When to replace this part?
The clearest signs that the propeller requires inspection or replacement are: perceptible vibrations in the shaft or hull at different speeds, loss of top speed with no apparent engine cause, inability to reach maximum RPM under normal load conditions, or unjustified increase in fuel consumption. Aluminum propellers are especially vulnerable to impacts with submerged objects—sandy bottoms, rocks, anchor chains—, which produce bending or chunks torn from the blades, generating imbalances that accelerate bearing and transmission shaft seal wear; even apparently minor deformations can compromise the watertightness of the forward seal and result in high-cost damage. It is recommended to visually inspect the propeller at the beginning and end of each boating season, and proceed with replacement as a preventive measure upon any sign of cavitation erosion, material loss, or blade deformation, since operating with a damaged propeller in offshore navigation could leave the vessel without propulsion at the most inopportune moment.
