Function and technical context

The seal is a fundamental component in the sealing system of marine engines, responsible for sealing the area where the drive shaft passes through the engine casing to prevent the entry of water and the leakage of lubricant. In Yamaha F166 engines and their equivalents in other brands, this seal works under conditions of variable pressure and constant rotary movement, protecting the inside of the engine from corrosion and premature deterioration. Its failure generates immediate consequences: entry of seawater into the internal chambers, loss of lubricating oil, oxidation of critical components and, in extreme cases, engine blockage during navigation.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of seal wear include visible oil leaks around the shaft, presence of water in the crankcase (oil emulsification), abnormal increase in lubricant consumption, and increased resistance to engine rotation.
