Function and technical context

The 61N-45127-00 water seal is a critical sealing component in the outboard engine cooling system. Its main function is to prevent the entry of seawater into the crankshaft chamber and the internal areas of the engine, acting as a barrier between the external cooling circuit and the sealed cavities of the propeller. This seal works under variable pressure and temperature conditions, withstanding direct contact with salt water during navigation. If this component wears out or loses its tightness, it allows water to leak into the engine, which causes accelerated corrosion, moisture entering the lubrication oil and, in advanced cases, overheating and disabling of the propeller.

When to replace this part?

Water seals should be inspected at every seasonal check, especially after prolonged boating in salt water or waters with high sediment content. Symptoms of wear include water dripping from the engine block, water in the oil tank (which becomes milky in appearance), and an abnormal increase in operating temperature. It is recommended that this seal be replaced preventively during major maintenance checks or if any signs of moisture are detected. Replacing the seal preventively is significantly more economical than repairing internal damage caused by water entering the engine.
