This gasket is part of the engine's water cooling system, sealing the connection between the water pump and the cooling circuit. Its function is to prevent coolant leaks by maintaining tightness under pressure during engine operation. When the gasket degrades or loses its sealing capacity, it allows the coolant to escape, compromising the system's thermal dissipation capacity and exposing the engine to progressive overheating that can lead to serious damage to the cylinders and cylinder head.
When to replace this part?
The water pump seals show signs of wear when visible drips appear around the base of the pump, an abnormal increase in engine temperature despite the coolant level being correct, or limescale deposits in the sealing area.
