The 6E0-45560-00 sprocket is a critical toothed component of the power transmission system on small displacement Yamaha outboard engines. This gear transmits the rotation of the crankshaft to the gearbox and ultimately to the propeller, allowing the energy generated in combustion to be converted into directional thrust. The hardening and geometry of the pinion steel are designed to withstand torsional loads during acceleration, sustained cruising and reversing maneuvers. If the pinion suffers progressive wear or breakage, the transmission of torque is compromised, causing loss of traction, abnormal vibration along the entire line of axles and even the inability to move the boat.

When to replace this part?

Indicators of pinion deterioration include metallic noises coming from the transmission area (especially during acceleration and gear changes), excessive vibration at certain engine revolutions, and propeller slippage without gain in propellant speed. It is recommended to inspect the condition of the pinion during each seasonal maintenance check, with special attention if you have navigated in waters with sediment, sand or if you have experienced an accidental impact against the seabed. Preventatively replacing the pinion before wear becomes extreme prevents cascading damage to other gears in the transmission and prevents costly, unforeseen out-of-port repairs.
