Function and technical context

This seal is part of the engine's water cooling system, sealing the area where the water intake tube passes to the internal cooling galleries. Its mission is to prevent water leaks into areas where it would cause corrosion, loss of tightness and entry of humidity into critical spaces of the engine block. A worn or deteriorated seal compromises the integrity of the cooling circuit, allowing seawater or fresh water to escape into areas that must be kept dry, which can cause accelerated corrosion, damage to adjacent gaskets and, in severe cases, water entry into the crankcase or lubrication areas.
