Function and technical context

The water pump kit is the central component of the water cooling circuit in outboard engines, responsible for driving the continuous flow of water from the outside to the engine block cooling system. In seawater-cooled long-tail engines, the plastic impeller rotates inside the pump housing and generates the pressure necessary to circulate the coolant through the internal galleries. If the pump fails or the impeller loses efficiency, the engine is left without effective cooling in a matter of minutes, which can cause irreversible deformations of the cylinder head, seizure of pistons or serious damage to the block. This kit includes the plastic impeller with key, designed specifically for Loopcharged 2 and 3 cylinder engines in the power ranges 40-75 hp in long tail configuration.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn impeller or a water pump in poor condition are: temperature alarm activated during navigation, reduction or absence of the cooling water jet at the outlet spout, or progressive overheating of the engine even at idle. It is recommended to replace the water pump impeller every 200-300 hours of use or at the beginning of each boating season, since the plastic fins deform with heat and time even if the engine has not accumulated many hours. Performing the change preventively at the beginning of the season is the practice recommended by naval technicians to avoid serious breakdowns and unforeseen strandings on the high seas.
