When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a bad turbocharger include a noticeable loss of thrust or acceleration, excessive smoke from the exhaust (black indicates poor supercharging; blue or white indicates oil consumption from the turbo seal), abnormal metallic noise coming from the turbo during operation, or excessive play in the turbine shaft when checked manually. It is recommended to inspect the turbocharger during each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to the condition of the shaft, oil seals and vanes, as well as verifying that there are no leaks in the intake or exhaust ducts connected to the assembly. Anticipating replacement at the first signs of wear prevents major damage to the engine block, which can be much more expensive to repair.
