Description

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes constitute the first galvanic protection shield of any boat: by oxidizing in a controlled manner, they preserve the most valuable metal surfaces—propellers, shafts, tail bodies and metal hulls—against electrolytic corrosion caused by parasitic currents in the water. This 135 mm Baglietto anode (reference TEN00152) is designed to be installed on vessels with propulsion systems or metal structures that require precise cathodic protection in their fitting diameter. Its function within the galvanic protection system is to act as a less noble electrode, attracting to itself electrochemical degradation that would otherwise attack the structural metals of the hull or transmission. A depleted or missing anode can lead to accelerated corrosion of critical components, with serious consequences for the integrity of the vessel and very high repair costs.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that a sacrificial anode needs replacement is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the anode appears corroded, fragmented or reduced to less than half its initial volume, it has stopped offering effective protection. It is recommended to check the condition of all anodes at each seasonal stranding - usually once a year or every two years depending on the activity of the boat and the salinity of the navigation water - and replace them preventively before they are completely used up. Not waiting for the anode to disappear completely is the best guarantee to avoid irreversible damage to the shaft, propeller or metal hull.
