Description

Function and technical context

The shaft socket is a specialized removal and adjustment tool that allows you to safely and accurately work on the propeller drive shaft on outboard engines and marine propellers. Its design is designed to fit exactly on the shaft fastening elements - crown nuts, locknuts or bushings - guaranteeing the appropriate tightening torque without damaging the treated surfaces. Working on the transmission system without the correct specific tool can cause irreversible damage to the shaft thread, deformation of the nut or even loss of the propeller during navigation, with the serious safety consequences that this entails. The use of this socket (reference TEN00494) ensures professional intervention on the 20 mm shaft, avoiding costly repairs resulting from incorrect tightening or the use of unsuitable tools.

When to replace this part?

Axle sockets may show wear on their working faces when they have been used with excessive tightening forces or with non-recommended impact accessories, which is visually detected by rounded edges or looseness when fitting on the nut. It is recommended to check the condition of the socket in each intervention on the drive train - changing the propeller, checking the tightness of the axle seal or disassembling the undercarriage - and replacing it as soon as it shows any sign of deformation. Always having a socket in perfect condition in the tool kit on board avoids being immobilized in case you need to urgently remove the propeller outside the port.
